I knew it was morning because a beam of sunlight was hitting me in the face.

I rolled over so I could ignore it for a while longer, when I abruptly remembered I wasn’t in my own bed. I was in Carter’s bed, and if there was sunlight...

Then the blackout blinds were up!

I shot up in bed, holding the sheet to myself, suddenly hyperventilating. But the blackout shades were all tightly closed... except for one. And it was where the morning light was streaming through. Even it wasn’t completely open; only about a quarter of the way. Just enough to flood the room with light, but not to send my phobia into overdrive.

I looked around the room and found my dress was missing, but there was a plush white bathrobe lying on the foot of the bed. I pulled it on, tried to pull my hair out of my face—god, I’d give a lot for a mirror, so I could assess how bad I looked.

But there weren’t any mirrors in Carter’s bedroom. I looked around but couldn’t see a door that led to a bathroom.

This is fun...

So I swiped my eyes with the sleeve of the robe, trying to remove any smudged eyeliner, and then headed out of the bedroom.

The apartment was streaked with sunlight. Carter had opened maybe half the blackout blinds about a foot, to let in the morning sunlight. His penthouse was even more stunning by the light of day. Plush white carpeting, velvet and leather furnishings that were obviously new but designed with older, elegant furnishings in mind.

And there was a large glass table by one of the partially opened window shades. It had a large covered silver tray stationed there, and an elegant silver coffee pot with a single china cup and saucer.

“Good morning Miss Thornton,” a cultured British accented voice said from behind me. I jumped and squeaked, and pretty much almost fell onto the glass table.

I whirled around to face a dapper looking man in a smart gray suit. His short, neat-as-a-pin hair was peppered with gray.

“I apologize for startling you, Miss Thornton. My name is Grayson. I’m Mr. Sinclair’s butler.”

Carter has an Alfred? I suddenly wondered if he had a Bat Cave hidden under the building as well.

“Where is Ga—I mean, Mr. Sinclair?”

Grayson didn’t bat an eyelash. “Unfortunately Mr. Sinclair was called away on pressing business.”

“Oh... ” I stood there and felt my stomach drop. I’d had all kinds of mind-blowing sex with the man... slept with him in his bed, and woke up to find him not even in the same building. I think I might have hiccupped. I sometimes do that when I’m upset.

Grayson finally changed expressions, not that the new bordering on pity look was any improvement.

“Mr. Sinclair wanted me to offer you breakfast and use of the bathroom before his car took you home. Your dress has been dry-cleaned, but there are also some casual clothes in your size in the bathroom as well.”

I looked over to the glass table with the fine silver tray.
